Event Information

The First Coast Wind Symphony, Jacksonville's premier community music organization, is a 60-member group led by music director Artie Clifton and conductor Paul Weikle. The organization provides a cultural service by offering free concerts of outstanding wind music throughout the greater Jacksonville area.

The program will include patriotic music that celebrates America's 250th birthday with the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Selections include "American Salute," "Fanfare 250," and "Broad Stripes and Bright Stars."

The concert will feature the winner of the 15th annual "FCWS Concerto Competition for High School Musicians," an event open to all Florida students. This year's winner is Nolan Crews, who will perform the Alexandra Pakhmutova "Trumpet Concerto." The concerto competition supports music education by providing talented high school musicians an opportunity to perform a concerto with wind symphony. https://www.fcwinds.org/events/concerto-competition

The program will also include the premiere performance of a fresh new work by local composer Bob Moore titled "Finster!" based on the colorful life of American folk artist Howard Finster. Several Finster paintings will be displayed during the performance as the music captures the spirit of each artwork.

Other works on the concert will include video game music from the popular "Final Fantasy VII."
