When Ira Marlowe first moved to San Francisco on 1989, he stumbled onto a vibrant scene for songwriters at the semi-legendary “Owl & Monkey Cafe”.  After the Owl folded in the mid-90’s, the vacuum was soon filled by another coffee house, the beloved Bazaar Cafe in SF’s Richmond District.  With the opening of the Monkey House in June of 2012, Ira follows in these footsteps, creating a cozy East Bay home for songwriters, comedians, storytellers, and other thoughtful and entertaining performers.  But in conceiving his own venue, he added  some some elements usually missing from the coffeehouse scene: a stage, a sound system, lights, even a black velvet curtain.  He wanted a room that felt more like... show biz.
