Built as a movie theatre in 1926, the Rio Grande Theatre was a focal point of downtown and a community gathering place until it closed in 1997. Over the next 8 years and at a cost of $2.2 million, the theatre has been renovated and reinvented.
The Doña Ana Arts Council manages the Theatre and provides events like it's Performance Series, Every Other Tuesday, Film Las Cruces, and Missoula Children's Theatre. The Arts Council also provides events in the community like the Renaissance ArtsFaire, Zombie Walk, and Las Cruces Arts Fair.
