Jessie Rodriguez: Flight Risk: Birds in Peril
This is an animation event inside of a gallery examining the many ways that birds have been made to suffer in my stop motion animations. They often are the narrative drivers of plots and have been put into dangerous situations, fallen into depression, experienced grief, and often emerge to find a new path through transformation. It will feature several animations surrounded by the material that they are composed of. Included in this show is a mini animation showcase called the Pigeon's Living Room which brings to life an animation scene from a music video in a larger format. It features a depressed, drunk pigeon watching TV. I invited eight indie animators to create short animations for his entertainment to display on his TV to try to lift him from despair.

Related Event: Weird Animators Showcase: 6-9 pm, Saturday May 16th, Wolf Luv Studios, 1516 Teller Street/Sponsored by W 40 Arts

In addition to playing work on the tiny screen, the animators involved in the Pigeon's Living Room as well as a few additional animators will show work at the inaugural Weird Animators Showcase. Aptly named, many of the animators met at Weird Theater, an event hosted monthly at the venue by Wolf Luv Films. The 12 animators presenting work will show short animations followed by a moderated Q AND A after the screening. There will be vending tables for original art and creative projects of the animators involved.

Anthony Porcaro: Observer Effect
Anthony Porcaro's work consists of surreal and paradoxical photographs meant to challenge the viewer's perception of reality and certainty. The work contrasts photography's legacy as a document of truth and the contemporary state of digital manipulation.

In creating his artwork, Anthony Porcaro builds impossible and fantastical scenes using techniques including miniature construction and digital compositing. These scenes are then photographed using the wet plate collodion process, which introduces chemical artifacts and physical markers of an authentic photograph.
