Event Information
It's Detroit's 325th Birthday! Calling all descendants of the early French settlers of Detroit, Francophones, francophiles, history buffs and everyone who loves to celebrate Detroit, this party is for you! Bonne Fete Detroit 325 will begin with a free Founders' Ceremony at the Cadillac Statue in Hart Plaza on Friday, July 24 at 4:00 p.m. The commemoration will pay tribute to Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac and his founding convoy. The world-renowned French Boys' Choir will perform during the ceremony. Festivities will follow at ticketed events at the historic Fort Pontchartrain Hotel, built on the site of Cadillac's 1701 fort. Activities for Friday and Saturday, July 25, include French/French Canadian food; live, traditional French Canadian music and community dancing (instruction included); keynote presentations about the French history of the region; the Detroit French History Cruise; raffle; and more! This bilingual celebration (French/English) is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the French culture and heritage of early Detroit. Eighteenth century attire is encouraged but not required. Please join us for some or all of the festivities planned to celebrate Detroit's 325th. Wear your dancing shoes and prepare to catch the French spirit of joie de vivre! For more details about Bonne Fete Detroit 325, please see our website at rendezvousdetroit.org.
