Event Information

The festival is the only one of its kind in Alabama that acknowledges the multicultural history and people of the Federal Road, one of the first federally funded interstate routes in the U.S. The Federal Road made possible the "Alabama Fever" land rush which comprised the early settlement of Alabama and its population growth during the 1800s. This year's theme is "Celebrating Anniversaries, Legacies, and Bright Futures."

The Festival will feature returning Emcee Norma McGowan Jackson of Tuskegee, and special storytellers, Guy Trammell, Macon County historian, and Stephanie Bailey, Order of the Eastern Star, Mt. Nebo Lodge. Southeastern Mvskoke Nation Chief Michelle Gilmore, of Troy, Alabama, will render a children’s book reading and Emma Salahuddin, a.k.a. Didg Mama, a professional musician from Atlanta, Georgia, will play the digeridoo, an ancient wind instrument created by the Aboriginal peoples of northern Australia. Mama Koku, Master Storyteller also from Atlanta will delight young and old alike with her interactive storytelling style. Stefani Priskos, folklorist, educator, and Director of the Alabama Center for Traditional Culture, will give a talk and demo of Sacred Harp Singing. Shades of Adventure will present the camp out, offering hands-on sessions in camping basics and camp cookery and family-friendly games to stimulate enthusiasm and joy for outdoor recreation.

The Festival on Saturday, October 24 is free. Advance registration is required for the overnight Camp Out - Saturday, Oct. 24 - Sunday, October 25. For detailed information about both events, including locations, times, and Camp Out registration information, visit https://fp8n2s7cel.c36.airoapp.ai
