Christ Lutheran Church of Aptos is the result of the work of the Division of American Missions of the ALC (Editor’s note:American Lutheran Church)and was begun in 1965.Pastor Niels Carlsen was called from Pasadena, California, to develop the field and with the aid of Mrs. Caroline Nelson, began an extensive door to door calling.
On Sunday, June 27, 1965, the first service was conducted in the Aptos Nursery School.In September the services were moved to the Valencia Grange Hall.On Sunday, November 14, 1965, Christ Lutheran was officially organized and incorporated as a non-profit organization of the state of California.Dr. E. J. Cornils, the Executive Vice President of the South Pacific District, presided.The first Church Council was elected with James Stakkestad serving as president.Other members were LeRoy Zenker, Larry Boline, Roy Andresen, Howard Petersen, Al Derrick, Leif Rovick, Bob Merrell and Art Young.Einer Solevad was appointed as the Financial Secretary.Pastor ...
