Jerome Allen "Jerry" Seinfeld (born April 29, 1954) is an American stand-up comedian, actor and writer, best known for playing a semi-fictional version of himself in the situation comedy ''Seinfeld'' (1989–1998), which he co-created and co-wrote with Larry David, and, in the show's final two seasons, co-executive-produced.
In his first major foray back into the media since the finale of ''Seinfeld'', he co-wrote and co-produced the film ''Bee Movie'', also taking on the lead role of Barry B. Benson. In February 2010, Seinfeld premiered a reality TV series called ''The Marriage Ref'' on NBC. Seinfeld and the entire cast of ''Seinfeld'' appeared on the seventh season of Larry David's HBO original series ''Curb Your Enthusiasm''.
Volunteered on a kibbutz in Israel for a summer when he was 17. Pre-comedy jobs included selling lightbulbs over the phone. Started his career in series television in early episodes of Benson . Authored the 1993 book Seinlanguage, which landed on the New York Times Best Seller list. Purchased Billy Joel's mansion in the Hamptons for $32 million in 2000. Donated the celebrated "puffy shirt" from Seinfeld to the Smithsonian Institution in 2004. Jerry Seinfeld was born in the borough of Brooklyn in New York City. His father, Kálmán Seinfeld (1918–1985), was a sign maker of Austrian Jewish descent;his mother, Betty (née Hesney; born 1915),is of Syrian Jewish descent; her family lived in Aleppo.
Seinfeld grew up in Massapequa, New York and attended East Lake Elementary School and Massapequa High School.At the age of 16, he spent a short period of time volunteering in Kibbutz Sa'ar in Israel.He went to SUNY Oswego, and after his sophomore year he transferred to Queens College, City University of New York, graduating with a degree in communications and theater.
