When asked to run the Lizard Lounge's open mic show 5 years ago, host Tom Bianchi was flattered, but he knew this stage needed something different.
After hosting many open stages throughout town, (Herrell's Cafe, The Kells, PJ Ryan's, The Middle East Corner, The Burren) he felt he was ready for the challenge, but the one thing Tom did not want to do is run an open stage in a pub environment that eventually would evolve in to a drunken jam at the end of the night. This Lizard Lounge stage is worthy of so much more. Hence was born the LLOMC.
LLOMC, or Lizard Lounge Open Mic Challenge is a humble and encouraging "contest" with an emphasis on original music and community development. 20 open slots carry the audience through a marathon of music unlike no other. Our immaculately kept PA system and the accessibility of our well maintained stand up piano makes it a hot spot for musicians who what to be seen and heard in the best of situations.
Sure, at it's root this show is a contest, but the "challenge" of this evening is to be the best you can be, on and off the stage, developing your music, your community and your career symbiotically.
