Only a private college as prestigious as Butler University could house a venue as accommodating and versatile as Clowes Memorial Hall. The hall schedules acclaimed operas, lectures, both mainstream and orchestral concerts, and family shows that not only entertain the students of Butler University, but the people of Indianapolis. The considerable size of Clowes Memorial Hall allows it to host large national shows while simultaneously providing audiences with a comfortable setting from which to watch them.

Clowes Memorial Hall opened in 1963 to fulfill the wishes of the late Dr. George Henry Alexander Clowes, who desired a supreme arts center that could serve both Butler University and the Indianapolis community; and that's exactly what was built.
