Thealbum explores multiplicitylove, queerness,Mexican American and Chicanx identity,family, intimacy, yearning, lonelinessandchronicles a period of struggle and growth forMendoza Ramos as a person and artist.Lucha was born out of isolation at the adventof COVID-19 lockdowns, beginning with acover of Hank Williams Im So LonesomeI Could Cry, and following Mendoza Ramosas she moved from Portland, Oregon to MexicoCity, returning to her parents home countrywhile revisiting a lineage marred by violenceand silence, and simultaneously reachingtowards deeper relationships with loved onesand herself. The album reflects another tier offacing vulnerability, as Mendoza Ramosexplains, and is a battle cry to fight in order tobe seen and to be accepted, if not celebrated, inevery formanger and compassion, externally and internally, individually and societally.
