Wild, Wild West!
Music Director Anna Binneweg conducts the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic in this lively concert opening the season-long celebration of America's 250th birthday.

From the rugged heroism of Elmer Berstein's "The Magnificent Seven" to the sweeping vistas of William Grant Still's "American Scenes: The Far West," and the evocative lyricism of Elinor Remick Warren's "Along the Western Shore", the spirit of the American West comes alive.

No six-shooters allowed, but cowboy boots might be in vogue for audience and volunteers alike. The WMP also will lasso up John Williams' "The Cowboys."

Perhaps the highlight will be Aaron Copeland's "Four Dance Episodes from 'Rodeo'". How fitting this Wild, Wild West program is capped off with this set of tunes entitled "Buckaroo Holiday," "Corral Nocturne", "Saturday Night Waltz" and "Hoe-Down."
This is the first of four concerts by the WMP for the 2025-2026 season. Last season, three of our four concerts were SOLD OUT.

NOTE: All tickets are for reserved assigned seating. Tickets will be scanned for entry. Season subscribers not only have the choice of prime seats but also the "bargain" for adult pricing. Why not "treat" yourself or family member for a subscription to the orchestra's 54th season? Did you know that kids tickets are only $5?

In addition to this season's opener on October 5th, the other upcoming concerts will be December 14, March 8 and May 18 (a special Mothers' Day concert).
Dec. 14th: It's Magic!: Holiday charm takes center stage with beloved seasonal gems such as Tchaikovsky's Winter Dreams, Strauss' Skater's Waltz, and festive favorites performed by celebrated vocalist Joan Ellison.
March 8th: American Voices: In collaboration with the Alexandria Choral Society, the Philharmonic elevates American voices in powerful works by Gabriela Ortiz, Leonard Bernstein, Jake Runestad, and Jessie Montgomery.
May 18th: Side-by-Side: The season culminates in an uplifting side-by-side performance uniting the Washington Metropolitan Youth Orchestra with WMP in Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition". A second highlight promises to be pianist Stewart Goodyear's dynamic interpretation of Gershwin's Piano Concerto in F to serve as a grand finale to a vibrant season. (This Mothers' Day concert will be performed at the Schlesinger Hall, a much larger venue than the G.W. Masonic Memorial where the other concerts are played.)

The WMP is a vital component of the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic Association.
