Venue Information

The Grey Eagle was one of the first venues I gravitated to when I relocated from Tucson to Asheville in 2002, and during my ten years of living in Asheville some of my fondest musical memories are of Grey Eagle shows. I saw punk, I saw pop, I saw soul, I saw twang, I saw psychedelic indie-rock, I saw honey-throated folk; from Alejandro Escovedo to Akron/Family to Reigning Sound to Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings to Rodriguez... the list is long.

More to the point, though, as a veteran of concert-going since the early ‘70s, I can say without hesitation that the Eagle’s ambiance and intimacy, coupled with an excellent sound system, has always made for a profound concert experience; you can also sense that the musicians onstage feed off that intimacy, which has led on more than one occasion to a profound audience-artist transfer of energy that you simply can’t replicate in a cavernous, huge stage type venue.
