Berndnaut Smilde is a sculptor, photographer, and installation artist renowned for creating and capturing real clouds within indoor spaces. In the same way he builds up clouds that eventually fall apart, there is a duality of construction and deconstruction, hope and fragility that reoccurs in many of his works. Smilde’s work, often specific to a site, responds to the architecture, landscape or history of a given location.

Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art is a catalyst for creative experiences through the exploration of significant art of our time.if this light can hold (2015) is an inkjet print of the site-responsive installation by Melbourne-based artist Robbie Rowlands. Rowlands created the piece for BMoCA’s Spring 2016 exhibition Substrate, an exhibition that invited artists to make work using the floor of the museum.
