Venue Information

Arch Street Tavern is located in the heart of Hartford's original center. In the 1600's, the founding residents settled at the junction of the Great River (Connecticut River) and the Little River (today the Whitehead Highway).

Columbus Blvd. (Front St.) & Arch St. were among the earliest streets in Hartford. Known today as the "Father of Connecticut", Rev. Thomas Hooker resided on Arch Street (very near the Tavern's present site) alongside many other of Hartford's leading citizens. In those days, the Little River served as a watery highway on which barges ferried supplies into the heart of the young city.

In 1895, the Hartford Brick Carriage Factory (now Arch Street Tavern) was built, where it manufactured buggies and carriages until the automobile caused its demise some 20 years later. The tavern has also served as a firehouse and a truck body shop before its opening in 1978.
