Orff Schulwerk Certification, Levels I and II - June 19-30 - $700Designed for general music teachers, but open to any music teacher, this course is approved by the American Orff Schulwerk Association. Tim Purdum, Alan Purdum, Aaron Hansen, and Drue Bullington are the instructors. Level I is a prerequisite for Level II. Registrants for Level II must present documentation from Level I to register for Level II. These courses meet from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays only. Teachers may earn 3 EDMA credits (additional $110 per graduate credit hour fee through Drake University) OR 3 staff developmental credit (additional $35 per credit hour fee for the course through Heartland AEA). Step-by-Step Inspiration with Choral Songs and Bel Canto Solfeggio - June 26-29 - $325Taught by John Armstrong, this course was developed from our highly successful "Step-By_Step Bel Canto Solfeggio" class and will use a cooperative learning format to help teachers master the three-step process while emphasizing beautiful tone and expressive singing. This course meets from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Teachers may earn 3 EDMA credits (additional $110 per graduate credit hour fee through Drake University) OR 3 staff developmental credits (additional $35 per credit hour fee for the course through Heartland AEA). Please note that The Reading Choir Singer is a required text for this course.
You may register online March 13 through May 15. Teachers may register from May 15 until June 9 by paying a late fee of $100.
Kodaly Certification, Levels I, II, and III - July 10-21 - $650
Taught by Barbara and Tom Sleto, Kris VerSteeg, and Sandy Miller, this course is approved by the Organization of American Kodaly Educators. It will meet from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays from July 10 through July 21. Level I is a prerequisite for Level II and completion of Level II is required for enrollment in Level III. Teachers will need to furnish their certificates from other completed levels as evidence of ability to enroll in a higher level course. qualify for admission into a higher level course. Please bring your certificate on the first day of class. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The best parking for the Fine Arts Center would be Lot 1, located on 25th Street, between Carpenter Avenue and Forest Avenue. You will receive a parking pass for this event.
Do I have to bring my printed registration to the class?
You will not need to bring your printed registration to the class.

Is there housing available for participants?
Yes, on-campus housing is available. Please reserve and pay for the nights you need ($30 per night), plus the required linen fee ($15) using the online form. Teachers will be housed in a suite with single bedrooms on either side of a shared common room. There are no completely private rooms available. Bathrooms are shared and are located in the hallway of the room assigned.
Are meals readily available?
Yes, there are many restaurants in the area, ranging from fast food to something nicer. You'll be given a map of these at check-in on the first day of class.
How can I register for course credit?
A representative of Drake's School of Education will be present at check-in on the first day of each course. You may register for either the graduate credit ($110 per credit hour) or staff development credit ($35 per credit hour) at that time.
Will I need to do homework each night?
Yes, each course requires some homework. The typical amount of time you'll need to spend each night is probably between one and two hours.
If my school district is paying for the course, may I submit a purchase order?
We'd prefer not to accept POs, since they take so much time to administer. However, if there is absolutely no other way for you to pay for the course, please contact Dr. Aimee Beckmann-Collier at email@example.com.
