They say you should write what you know, a motto Latina playwright and television writer Tanya Saracho seems to have embraced whole-heartedly in her acclaimed play "Fade". With credits such as HBO's "Girls", ABC's "How to Get Away with Murder" and other shows under her belt, Saracho has applied the full force of her industry experience to a witty, behind-the-scenes drama that follows Lucia, a Mexican-born writer hired on to a ruthless Hollywood TV series. There, she meets a Mexican-American custodian, Abel, who is brimming with his own trove of excellent plot lines. As their friendship grows, so does Lucia's temptation to co-opt Abel's ideas in her own work, leading to poignant revelations about authenticity of culture and the self. Enter "Fade"'s "sweet spot between comedy and drama" ("Chicago Tribune") as this stirring production comes to Richard Christiansen Theater as part of the Chicago International Latino Theater Festival.
